Saturday, May 31, 2008: Park Life
Today I spent sun set in the Park.

I managed to get to the Tube just before a big rain storm blew in. While I was on the train heading home I noticed the best "Warning" sticker I've ever seen. Ever.

Here's a big monitor lizard I saw in the park.

The Park

The Starbucks near mine has become a regular hangout for for me in recent weeks. It has a scale model of the Condo they are building on the lot behind it so I managed to get some photos of it.

Monday, May 19, 2008: Waiting for Nothing

I have uploaded a new track to The Music Room "Waiting for Nothing" featuring the amazing Korg Kaosillator which I bought last weekend. This was recorded and mixed over the last 48 hours which is a new record for me as normally I spend weeks, if not months messing with things.
All the drums and synth sounds were generated with the Korg Kaossilator. I "recorded" the drum and bass part as a loop on the Kaossilator's phrase looper then dumped it over to the Zoom MRS8 recorder. I then added various parts and bleeps and so forth then finished it off with some vocals. Anyways listen and download if you are so inclined.
For the medically minded, I had my stitches removed today which was actually more painful that splitting my finger tip open or having them put in. But the Doctor says all is well and I can swim again. It may be several more weeks before guitar or bass are possible.
Now it's time to record something else.
Saturday, May 17, 2008: Korg Kaossilator
At last! After months of going into the Music Store at Central World to see if they had got a Korg Kaossilator in yet...
Today they did.
So I bought one. Later I sat at Starbucks in Paragon and monkeyed around with it. It is amazing to say the least.
The Kaosilator has synth and drum patches as well as the ability to record phrases and loops. The sounds are excellent and having a X-Y pad instead of a keyboard opens up some interesting possiblities. The unit has some limitations which have caused many to dismiss it as a toy (no MIDI, RCA outs, so storage of loops etc) but I think this will be a toy that I use often.

Wednesday, May 14, 2008: Dressing the Wound

This morning I changed the dressing on the mangled finger. It looks okay actually. Hardly the mess it was when I finally bothered to go to the hospital. And the cut looks so much smaller now that its all sown up. There isn't much pain which is a good sign and it is becoming itchy which is also supposed to be good. So this, like all the previous and current wounds will heal up in time.
I continue to thank my lucky stars that it wasn't worse or that the fan blade didn't hit me on another angle which would have resulted in a loss of nail or finger tip.
So it goes. Time for some Starbucks.
Monday, May 12, 2008: Thwack!
Here's a safety tip. For finger tips.
When you are moving the position of the big industrial size fan at the gym so it will blow on you while you run TURN IT OFF. Or at least don't rest your hand on the safety grill screen thing.
I did finish my run.
And I actually had breakfast after. But there was no escaping the trip to the Hospital where I had my left ring finger tip sown up and xrayed in case the impact had fractured the bone.
So now I am on antibiotics to prevent infection - which I'm told would result in the loss of my finger tip - and I can't swim for at least until I have had the stitches removed next week. I will probably not be able to play guitar or bass for at least a month.
And I'd just bought the Zoom B1 bass effects pedal which has an outstanding "de-fretter" model for that fretless sound.
Roar!

My bloody hand...

Sown up nice and neat
