Sunday, February 28, 2010: Korg EM-1
I found a used EM-1 at a reasonable price so I picked it up. I think that gives a total of four Eletro-Tribes now. The ER-1, The EA-1, The ES-1, and the EM-1.
Korg Electro-Tribe EM-1
The EM-1 is really a cross between the ER-1 which is a 808 style "analog" emulation drum machine, and the EA-1 which is a duel track analog modeling synth. I got my ER-1 in 2000 and my EA-1 in 2006 however I never had the same degree of love for the EA-1 as I do for the ER-1. This new box is the best aspects of both and very easy to program. I suspect it will be on my next Ping Things net release, which I am working on now.

Saturday, February 13, 2010: Khim
I have purchased a Thai Hammer Dulcimer or "Khim" for noise making and tinkering. I have also purchased a contact pickup for mounting to allow for direct recording and sound mangling of the Khim. The pickup cost more than the Khim.
The Khim is tuned to B Flat and the strings are in groups of three which are thankfully tuned in unison. I am not sure if the tuning winder thing will make it through airport security though. you could definately put someone's eye out with it.
The Khim itself weighs a ton as the casing is wood and comes with a wood cover to protect the strings. It came with a carrying case which should work well to protect it from dust and ants while not in use. I don't think I'll be transporting it about much. I also would doubt I will lug it back to Canada other than in sampled digitial form on the Kaoss Pad 3.
